Eleven Eastern States Agree to Low Carbon Standard
Associated Press
BOSTON — Eleven Eastern states have agreed to adhere to a new fuel standard that they hope will reduce greenhouse gases.
Massachusetts energy secretary Ian Bowles said Monday that the states will decide on a single standard for the entire region. He says it will create a larger market for cleaner fuels and the development of related technology.
The low carbon fuel standard requires a reduction in average greenhouse gas emissions per unit of energy. It applies to fuel for transportation and home heating.
The states include Massachusetts, New York, Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island and Vermont.
In December, California adopted a sweeping plan to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Oh goody. As if electricity and fuel weren’t expensive enough already, all on account of these deluded green numskulls.

Excellent! There must be a population of 55 million in these states and that will create a large
market for cleaner gas, better heating oil, cleaner coal, shared electricity and etc.
I applaud these eastern states. I hope it becomes a model for the rest of the country.
Way to go!

I resent having to pay thousands of dollars in extra taxes just so some environmentalists, or government bureaucrats, can control our economy. Scientists agree that greenhouse gas emissions have no significant effect on climate, and those who say so are lying.
The UN, National, State and Local Governments want to get the trillions of dollars greenhouse gas taxes or cap and trade deals will produce. That is the real reason, climate change is the excuse.

This is insane, the people are about to freeze now and these idiots want to make fuel more expensive. The earth cooled in the last decade despite the press reporting. Another case of liberal fools damaging our nation.

These states are intellectually challenged. We must address the root cause and proceed with scientific honesty, not monetary driven ideology (i.e. Y2K syndrome/Global warming). Many of these back east schools produce intellectual pygmies with little chance of intellectual honest results.
The #1 problem: No competition to fossil fuel transportation.
The answer: The only reasonable, immediately available solution is the AFFORDABLE electric commuter vehicle.
The #2 problem: Affordable clean power.
The answer: A proven pebble bed cascading nuclear facility. Proven, affordable, reliable and clean!!
We could lead the world in technology and clean up our filthy cities’ air.
One must look at the forest and not just the foliage (or commonly referred to as the trees).
The total answer must be affordable, efficient and clean….in that order.

I can’t believe you guys at Fox news are doing this. Doesn’t anyone have any brains left. Every study that has been done objectivelyy without having arrived at a conclsuion before being doen has repudiated the whole man-made global warming. Now we are hearing that the earth is on the verge of the next ice age. Face it, the lefties and the religious gurus who worship ‘mother-earth’ instead of the earth’s creator have deceived you and others who buy into this whole notion of global warming.

When will the states stop penalizing their residents. Maryland is just another corrupt state run by liberals.
January 14th, 2009 at 12:32 pm
The Russians claim an ice age is coming. Al Gore says global warming. Between the two, I’d choose the Russians based solely on credibility.
The stupidity of the politicians and electorate of the states of the Northeast appear to be without bounds.

Liberals Unite!

If the greenies REALLY wanted to reduce CO2 they would push for more nuclear power plants.

You need to take a look at this website.
showerminder.com Western states are running out of WATER.

I think company’s machines fit in with Mr. Bowles objectives. They can clean the air with a microbial technology that is green. Check it out at http://www.biocascade.net

This is ridiculous, we already have some of the highest tax rates on our fuels in the NorthEast. Now we are going to “create” a market that will do nothing more than waste my money.

C02 is critical for photosynthesis, the reason greenhouses pump it in. If you really want a “GREEN” planet, make more CO2.

do people really trust our this govorment to clean up the environment? they sure fixed social security didnt they? seems like every new problem the govorment tries to fix means more taxes, more regulations, and higher cost for the consumer.

The low winter temperature this winter in my neck of the woods in NH was -19. The high temperature was 104 last summer. Ok global warming is going to raise the worlds temperature 2 degrees over the next twenty years. You ask why no one cares…. Be serious. I suggest people who live close to the ocean who fear the ocean is going to rise move. I suggest people who are moving to the over populated south west and running out of water stop moving there. Guess what, during the last ice age people moved south or died out. That’s what will happen during the next ice age as well. Guess what, Billions of years ago, when the earth was a much much warmer place the animals moved to cooler climates or became extinct. Adapt or die. Its that simple.
People in New England deal with wide swings in temperature every year. Why? because they have to if they want to live here.
The C02 craze has nothing to do with global warming even if it is the cause of it. The C02 craze is about someone trying to make money off of the latest FUD craze. People are making money off of what they have always made money off of. FUD = Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt. Get people good and scared and there is an opportunity to make money. Two decades or so ago the green movement focused upon getting everyone afraid the world was going to end because of the Ozone hole. Then the environmental movement tried to get everyone scared that the world was going to freeze within a decade due to a horrible ice age. Kudos, to the green movement, they are outstanding propagators of fear and making money off of it.

We becoming more and more idiotic. People think only money when they doing that. They going to cow every car manufacturers and then us. Thanks ‘green’ lovers!

The best way for the greenies to reduce CO2 emissions is for them to quit breathing and leave the rest of us alone.
January 19th, 2009 at 9:44 am
Good. I live in a rural area downwind of Baltimore. I’m sick of breathing in the toxic air from people too lazy to walk a few blocks and must jump in their car instead. Until polluted air and water can be confined to the area of those that create it, government should mandate lower emissions.

To my knowledge, every one of us on this earth BREATHES AIR, DRINKS WATER, AND EATS FOOD. Whether the earth is getting warmer or colder, whether it’s man-made or not, “green” solutions are good not just for “lefties” or “tree huggers” but there good for all of us. It’s a larger issue than just global warming. When you consider the health price we pay for not only burning oil to heat our homes and drive our cars, but the pollution caused by refining the oil, and also the amount of oil, coal powered electric, and pollution needed to produce the 1000’s of parts that make up a combustion engine powered automobile, the price society as a whole pays for the luxury of this dirty technology is staggering. Consider the direct health effects of the smog cars create or the pollution oil refineries cause:
-http://articles.latimes.com/2008/nov/13/local/me-pollute13 (search for others on google, there are 100’s of them)
- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_pollution
These are not just articles with politically motivated rants from “tree huggers” or “lefties”. Burning fossil fuels is just dirty business and isn’t good for our air, food, or water supply. It’s not about whether your liberal or conservative and where you stand on global warming, it’s about protecting the planet that we rely on to survive and not shooting ourselves in our collective foot by polluting the air, land, and water just so we can thrive economically and purchase whatever material item that’s appealing to us, regardless of it’s impact on the environment. Poeple don’t consider pollution unless it directly affects them. If you live in Los Angeles or Delhi, India, YOU GET IT!! If you live in an area where refinery water is discharged and you can’t eat the fish or drink the water due to the chemicals introduced, YOU GET IT!! There has to be a balance between economic benefits and preservation of the environment we rely on to live. Given the fact that electric cars have fewer movable parts, there’s no reason why they can’t be more affordable than gas cars after taking into account economies of scale, but without making the initial investments in clean technologies and spurring the growth of the market, they’ll never become affordable. Consider how expensive flat panel displays for computers were 10 years ago and how much are they are now. When they first came out, we all wanted them, but couldn’t afford them. Now everyone has them and they also save energy. I think we would be doing ourselves, our children, our grandchildren, and our country a favor by stopping the partisan bickering and adopting environmentally clean technology so we can all live healthier, longer, and more prosperous lives.

Why are all these folks so angry about the global warming scam? Any thing that goes wrong is simply going to be solved by Barrack “Apollo” Obama now. So why worry?
By the way, I’m waiting for my mortgage check from the federal government. Has there been a weather delay with the mail?
January 20th, 2009 at 10:25 pm
A southerner must say that the “Blind” (all politions) leading the “Stupid” (the folks that fall for this nonsence.)Why don’t we all just convert over to the Amish way of life, then there will be no problems.

Just because we believe that the climate change is natural does not mean we don’t want to keep the planet as clean as possible. But the ultimate clean is only achieved if we mass suicide into predug graves. There must be compromise: Nucs would seem to be an excellant answer, but not a option to the Libs/Greens.
